Feedback from Alsager School 'Chaos was cool! It was in general, very interesting'
'Sometimes, there were mathematical terms that were used that were difficult to follow as definitions were not completely clear; however I didn't feel this was a bad thing'

Feedback from Bedford School, Leigh 'You will be pleased to know that from the pupil evaluations all 35 pupils said that they enjoyed the seminar and 10 students commented that they would be more likely to study Maths at College - a great result!'

    Feedback from Byrchall High School
'Very stimulating talk illustrating the importance of Mathematics in the future development of the world as a whole'

Feedback from Congleton High School Really interesting talk, it inspired us to carry on with Maths. Good luck with your new invention thingy!

'Liked the train tickets activity alot and love my ruler! Thanks for an interesting talk. Follow your invention up - it sounds really good (don't sell it to another country!) Thank you very much for giving my top set year 11 the opportunity to see some higher level Mathematics and inspire them to continue with the subject. It was particularly relevant as the students are just about to chose their A level subjects. You pitched the talk at exactly the correct level and it provoked lots of discussion during the Maths lessons that followed'.

Feedback from Derby College, Derby '...there was an amazing amount crammed in to a short time but hopefully students gained just a glimpse of both the scope of Mathematics and the possibilities it opens up... some of them may even choose to study the subject at university as a result of this presentation'

Feedback from Derby College, Joseph Wright 6th Form'Very interesting and changed my view of maths'

Feedback from Eaton Bank, Congleton 'Very interesting and fun. Showed what maths was really like which was different to what I thought, thanks. It was really great to be able to see the different topics that you study at University at maths and it was a fun way to be engaged in the presentation. Thanks! 'Thanks for making me consider alternative courses at University: maths now looks very appealing to me :-)'. 'It was good how you talked about Universities as well as Job placement, I also enjoyed how you applied it to your invention, good luck on it btw :D'. 'Made me consider maths at university again!'☺ '

    Feedback from Hyde Clarendon College
'Applications to real world, very often maths is seen as completely theoretical'. 'I enjoyed the bits about new developments in making a computer think'
'I would have liked to seen more demonstrations'

Feedback from INTO Manchester 'Dr Stephen Lynch's talk on "Maths is fun" was extremely well delivered and proved to be highly popular with our students; there was standing room only for late comers. He delivered his talk in a clear lively manner and illustrated his points using an assortment of visual aids from the lowly video cassette to AIBO the robotic dog. The audience found the presentation interesting and informative. Some memorable facts that students responded to were:- the concept that time varied in deep space they found astounding, the existence of non-Euclidean geometry was consider unsettling and others found fractals and there use in the modelling of the reproduction of flies inventive . The staff were fascinated by the process of obtaining an international patent. The entire audience was taken with AIBO; some students (and staff) regretted not taking up Dr Lynch's offer to play with the dog.' 'At the end of the lecture students were left with a better understanding of the impact that mathematics plays in the everyday world. They also realised that their options with mathematics at university could be wider than they first thought. Our students would recommend this enjoyable talk to their friends and word of mouth is the best advertisement and endorsement there is'.

Feedback from The King's School, Macclesfield 'Very stimulating and interesting, enjoyed all, excellent!'
'Very entertaining. Could it be made more interactive?'. 'The fact that a difference in initial experience can have a dramatic effect and the diagrams'
    'Fractals'
'where maths links to medicine and nature'
'The parts where he said computers would be confused if they hadn't encountered something (new)'
    'The simulations and applications programmes'
    'Applications to medicine'

Feedback from The King's School,Chester '...I am particularly encouraged by the large number (of students) who say they have found a significant interest in opportunities previously unknown or rejected by them'.

'A dynamic speaker who gave a highly advanced talk on how mathematics can be applied to many professions...'
'The best of the day's talks, it differed and was a refreshing change...its focus was on stimulating interest in the subject area through a good computer presentation and demonstrations'

Feedback from Levenshulme High School, Manchester 'That was amazing, it's blown my mind.'

Feedback from Liverpool Community College, Liverpool 'Very good session, very informative and interesting'

    Feedback from MANCAT, Manchester
'Made the students think, both about Maths in H.E. and more importantly life in HE as a real possibility'
'A Good Day! We would like to encourage the links between MMU and MANCAT 16-19'

Feedback from Matthew Moss High School, RochdaleJust had to send this email to say a BIG thank you to your department , especially Steve Lynch for providing an excellent presentation to our Year 11 Maths students. A number of them have commented how Steve was very easy to listen to (Must be his subtle Liverpudlian accent!!) and very easy to understand. I thought he built excellent rapport with our pupils which help the session to be both informative and interactive.

Queen Elizabeth Grammar School "Dear Dr Stephen Lynch, Thank you very much for coming to QEGs and delivering your 2 lectures. The Year 11 pupils thoroughly enjoyed your talk on Robotics and it has led to many of the pupils asking questions regarding mathematics in this area. The Lower 6th form students were enthused by your Maths talk and again thoroughly enjoyed it, finding it very relevant and exciting. All the teachers that came to listen gave excellent feedback. It is always difficult to find good speakers and interesting lectures for Mathematics. Yours was both and I would like to invite you back next year if you are available. I hope that your are given the opportunity to go into more schools to encourage mathematics as a subject and I would highly recommend you to any school.

Feedback from Sandbach School 'I enjoyed learning the different uses and applications of mathematics and the different fractal patterns'. 'I would have liked to have seen more pictures made by chaos, like magnetic pendulum'

Feedback from St Bees School '...lecture was very well received, and we are most grateful for the opportunity to hear it'.

Feedback from Salford City School 'The event was absolutely brilliant, the students really enjoyed the talk "What is Maths?", it was extremely informative, showed students the joys of mathematics and really helped to raise their aspirations. A lot spoke about studying maths at university afterwards!'

Feedback from Tarporley High School Overview of Student Reflections: I was amazed by the animation showing the size of the universe, it helped me comprehend just how big it is "I was really interested by the practical applications of maths in the real world and how it is linked to nature, medicine, the universe and computers. I was particularly interested by the information on neurons, Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease. I learnt from the workshop how maths is applied in real life and was surprised by the range of topics in maths taught at university. It has made me reconsider taking maths at A-level as it was really different/interesting from maths in school and I realise jobs prefer maths over anything else. 'The talk and workshop provided was fantastic. Students were engaged throughout and enjoyed the opportunity to problem solve and also consider the purpose of maths in the real world. Thank you again and hopefully you may consider visiting us again next year.

Feedback from Whitehaven School 'Feedback from the students has been very positive. I thought it was an excellent visit. We'll definitely be interested in coming to you again.
The students were split evenly as to which talk was the best. Both were good. Some liked the very structured approach to the morning lecture. It has inspired several to have a look at VRML on the web. It also made the topic seem accessible to them. Others liked the sweeping nature of the afternoon talk.
    Buildings, food etc very impressive.
Some of the students would appreciate it if you would move Manchester a little nearer to Cumbria!'

Feedback from Weatherhead High School, Wallasey 'Today's talk was great, thank you! I spoke to some of the students afterwards and they really enjoyed it. They particularly enjoyed thinking about the Maths that they have not yet encountered. One said that she liked how it made her think about the subject in greater depth. Another said that she liked how it linked the Sciences and how they could work together. One said that she thinks she might like to study Maths and Physics at university! It was lovely to meet you and thank you so much for making the talk so engaging and interesting. Good luck with your inventions!
